Fat is Fun! *___^

Fat people are stigmatized and are the victims of tasteless jokes and assaults on their dignity. People always look at me differently just because I’m fat. I’ve been called all the fat names in the book since I was a child. There’s Porky, Fatso, Tambokikoy, Dambuhala, Jumbo, and Producer Feeds, to name a few. But, as they say, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” because being fat is also fun!

You can be fat and fabulous! There’s more sensuality and sex appeal in our forms than bones poking through the skin of most waif-looking fashion models. And there’s no truth that fat people are ugly. Blame it on the fashion magazines that dictate the standards of beauty in today’s society. That is what they do; they make a profit out of people’s misery, letting people feel dissatisfied with their appearances. Being fat was considered beautiful centuries ago. Look at the fine Greek paintings and sculptures of Aphrodite of Melos, and Athena from the Parthenon, to name a few. With their big hips, thunderous thighs, and ample bosoms, their figures were considered desirable.

Have you ever noticed that fat people have smooth, soft skin and shiny hair? The fats in our body help in dissolving some of the vitamins we consume in food. This gives us a healthy glow in our skin and keeps us youthful-looking. Doctors often encourage women in their prime to gain a few pounds to get rid of facial wrinkles. So what you feed to your body actually manifests on the outside.

We must be God’s favorite people because we don’t freeze in water or in air-conditioned buildings because the fats provide bodily warmth. The subcutaneous fat serves as an insulator to the body helping it to stay warm in cold conditions. We don’t get bruises on our butts sitting on hard chairs (I know you can relate to this). And to top it all, people love to snuggle up to us because we make a good pillow. Anyway, who wants to cuddle up to a skeleton when curled up on the couch at night?

You usually think that all the thin girls have all the fun. We look more graceful when we dance. At the gym, we can lift more weight compared to other girls. And we can carry our lovers too!

People love to be around fat people because we are jolly and fun to be with. The fact that we love to indulge in food is because it soothes us. Studies made by Deborah Keston, a researcher in nutrition and author of “The Healing Secrets of Food”, showed that there’s a relationship that exists between eating certain types of food and feeling better, light-hearted, and even at peace, because of the substances produced in our brains which determine our state of mind and our behavior. Scientists confirmed that foods rich in carbohydrates in fact produced a calming effect, due to the release of a natural hormone called serotonin, which induces a sensation of well-being. So, what is pleasurable to the palate is good for the personality.

And we don’t skip desserts, too! Where’s the fun in counting calories, and cutting off conscientiously the skin and fat from your food? Life’s too short for carrot sticks and that veggie-mumbo-jumbo crap.

I admit I tried making myself thin because I wanted to fit in, I wanted to feel beautiful and be adored by guys, and I wanted to be like those supermodels I see on the runway. But deep inside, it was never fun to me at all. I was still the same insecure person, and even more bereaved and empty. I missed my “old happy” self and the thought of bingeing without feeling any guilt. But what I really missed were my big boobs and my J. Lo butt (nyahahaha!) Even though it was hard to find stylish clothes, it’s the way I carried what I wear that made me look good. That’s why I’ve gone back to my usual weight, and I’ve never felt happier now.

The body is just our instrument after all.
